– Set Designer

For the last 20 years Ben has been a successful actor.  Alongside this he has been exploring his passion for joinery and woodwork.  Covid-19 has presented him with the perfect opportunity to further develop this interest making things from tables, chairs, cabinets.  This is, however, his first attempt at designing a covid-safe theatre space and with the best will in the world his last!

– Lighting Designer and Technical Stage Manager

I have worked in many aspects of theatre and events for the past 30 years but 2 years ago I decided to study a BAHons in Technical Theatre Arts.  I finished that in August this year with First Class Honours and went into the industry like a damp squib thanks to COVID 19.

I have had one job this year with Wildworks on the “Meet me at the Edge” show which we sadly had to cancel and run it for invited audiences only so it is with great excitement I have taken on the role as Technical stage manager and lighting designer/operator for Popp Up Theatre’s Gwaryjy.

Kate spent many years working in a box office before deciding to pursue a more creative path.  She returned to University and graduated this year with a degree in Theatre & Performance.  As a Theatre Practitioner and Artist, she has seen first hand how difficult this year has been for the sector and is overjoyed to be part of the Gwaryjy team.

It’s been great for MSL and the university to be able to provide lighting equipment for this event.  It has been nice to do what I love doing once again!

From an AMATA and a personal perspective it’s great to see ways of making live theatre in these times, so I’m really happy to be able to support Gwaryjy.  It was fun to build a show so thanks to everyone for making it happen!
